St. Pete Artists Find a Home in Waterfront Condo

When this busy executive from the Northeast decided to purchase a local condo overlooking the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico as a second home, he contacted award-winning Decker Ross Interiors to design the project for him. He met with owner Suzan Decker Ross and Senior Designer Marci Tempesta to collaborate on the interior of his beachfront condo.

A neutral beige and grey color palette in the living/dining area allows the bold, bright abstract paintings of St. Pete artist Kate Cummins to pop.

With a penchant for supporting local artists, his main stipulation was to keep the design open and neutral, so the pops of colorful art would become the main focal point in each room. Decker Ross and Tempesta quickly determined his taste preference to be very contemporary with sleek, clean lines and somewhat minimalistic furnishings. They reached out to Alison West Brown Gallery to assist him in connecting with various local artists to find just the right selections for his personal gallery walls. “He prefers large statement pieces that are bold, colorful and definitely eye-catching,” Decker Ross noted.

When creating the overall design aesthetic for the condo, Decker Ross and Tempesta took into consideration not only their client’s taste, but his lifestyle as well. They designed a custom wine bar to meet his entertainment needs, and a home office which includes a desk area, bookcases, along with a Murphy bed for guests. A local fine furniture craftsman built the pieces to their specifications.

The master bedroom is sleek and minimalistic with a unique dark hardwood bed frame featuring a wave design to reflect the beachfront location.

The Decker Ross team utilized a variety of materials and finishes throughout to provide visual interest and textural contrast in each room. The hard surfaces, including the striated porcelain floor tile and elegant quartz countertops, were softened by incorporating various custom fabrics and area rugs into the design. Espresso cabinetry and a live edge wood dining table as well as sliced agates on pedestals added some natural elements to the condo’s interior.

The client plans to enjoy his sophisticated, yet comfortable Florida home for many years to come – from gorgeous sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico to his own personal gallery of local art.
